The positioner – a multi-talent which can optimally handle a wide spectrum of challenges: whether in a compact design for a wide range of standard applications or as a remote version. The digital positioner applies the state-of-the-art HART 7 communication standard with additional diagnostics functions such as the valve performance test. The optional “Fail in Place” function causes the valve to remain in the last position – the all-rounder thus provides comprehensive flexibility

The proven all-around talent provides comprehensive functions – including intelligent diagnostics – and can optionally communicate using HART 7, PROFIBUS PA or Foundation Fieldbus. A product which has been tried and tested so many times is always the right choice. Optionally available with Makrolon, aluminum, stainless or flameproof steel enclosure, the positioner is well-equipped for all ambient conditions. Available as standard with IP66 or NEMA 4x protection, it defies even challenging application environments.

In dialog with host systems, the SIPART PS2 demonstrates its communicative side. It can be integrated in the most diverse communication landscapes by means of the PROFIBUS PA, Foundation Fieldbus or HART 7 protocols. Furthermore, SIMATIC PDM can be applied with HART 7 and PROFIBUS PA to clearly display and document saved trend values, histograms, as well as commissioning and operating data.
The SIPART PS2 is equipped as standard with comprehensive diagnostics functions. To provide advance warning of costly failures during operation, our positioner permanently checks the actuator and valve. By applying the state-of-the-art HART 7 communication standard, the SIPART PS2 provides additional diagnostics functions such as the “Valve Performance Test” (VPT). Using this test, the state of a valve can be assessed during a planned plant standstill. The diagnostics package of our positioner is rounded off by the “Full Stroke Test” (FST), Step Response Test (SRT), and “Multistep Response Test” (MSRT). The diagnostics cockpit allows users to obtain a clear introduction with HART communication and enables them to quickly assess the state of a valve.
With a regular “Partial Stroke Test” (PST), the SIPART PS2 ensures that ESD (Emergency Shut Down) valves and other open/close valves remain free to move in emergency situations. The attached solenoid valve can also be tested by the positioner. In addition, the partial stroke test can be used for control valves in order to recognize maintenance requirements at an early stage during the ongoing process. Fail in place and fail-safe functions are also provided by our multi-talent. The fail in place function causes the valve to remain in the last position should the power supply fail. Alternatively, the fail-safe function makes sure that the valve moves to the safety position. This function is even suitable for use in SIL2 measuring circuits.
Our all-rounder can do even more: together with the SIPART PS2 booster, it allows fast control of large actuators with a Cv value of 2.0. Due to direct mounting on the positioner, the manual piping requirements are reduced to a minimum.

Compared to other methods which are based on the field strength and are more prone to reacting to this as well as to temperature influences, the GMR principle offers a further advantage: a greater distance is possible between sensor and magnets. The compact design and the high IP68 degree of protection of the non-contact and wear-free NCS also allow use in applications where conventional mounting solutions reach their limits.
In addition to the properties of the compact design, the SIPART PS2 provides the option for separate, remote position detection.
The following systems can be used for particularly critical applications such as extreme vibrations, temperatures and water influences as well as valves which are difficult to access:

The external position detection system in the Makrolon enclosure combined with a SIPART PS2 is particularly suitable for valves which are difficult to access.
The SIPART PS2 is also the best choice for applications which are not always typical for positioners (e.g. with pneumatic cylinders). Thanks to its modular design, however, it can also be connected toexternal position detection. The principle on which the external sensor is based is irrelevant. Whether with or without contacts, whether potentiometer, current signal or voltage value: the SIPART PS2 always impresses. All these different types of external sensors can be connected quickly and simply to the EMC filter module – no matter whether they are installed externally or inside the actuator component (e.g. in a pneumatic cylinder).
Non Contacting Sensor (NCS)
- As standard with IP68 or NEMA 4x degree of protection

Furthermore, this type of construction provides users with a fast and comprehensive overview of the applications in the plant, which may be up to one kilometer away. The rack units are available either as an mA version with three channels or as a PROFIBUS PA versionwith five, ten or fifteen channels.
